Green Building at COP21: The Pledge
With the recent progress of the COP21 in Paris, and the instalment of ‘Buildings Day’ in the fight against climate change, Green Building Councils are helping to ensure commitments from all stakeholders in the built environment. In Ireland, members of the Irish Green Building Council (IGBC) are pledging effective initiatives, and working with other dedicated organisations such as the Carbon Disclosure Project, in order to reduce the environmental impact of their operations.
As buildings account for nearly a third of global energy usage and a fifth of all greenhouse gas emissions, and that number continues to grow, it is increasingly important for builders, contractors, architects, and engineers alike, to commit to low emissions by using renewables and clean energy. With the notable economic, health, and social benefits, Green Building is the key to a better future.
As the call for commitment continues various members of the IGBC are expressing their pledges to the cause. Varming Consulting Engineers are dedicating their efforts to meeting the most stringent benchmarks for environmentally, economically, and socially sustainable design. In meeting the high standards of systems like BREEAM, LEED, Passive House, and NZEB, Varming Consulting Engineers are able to successfully contribute to the momentum of positive change. Through the efforts of education and collaboration, all projects are handled under the scope of conservation and the commitment to achieve a Net Zero Carbon future. With an existing NASI accredited system in place and the implementation of ISO 50001 by the year 2017, Varming Consulting Engineers understand the necessity of a clean future, and their pledge stands to make a difference in Ireland.
