Livingstandard.org, What It is & How it Hopes to Help us all
At Varming, our consulting engineers are regularly involved in the implementation of sustainable technologies that make buildings more energy efficient and ‘greener’. In this blog we look at Livingstandard.org and the organisation’s efforts to create a better future for us all.
The body is running an on-going campaign that focuses on the most important part of any building design – the welfare of those that use them. In an attempt to overcome modern day challenges, such as covid-19 and stay on track to a sustainable future, they have a plan with which to achieve their goals.
How a Greener Future Will Be Achieved
Initially launched by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) to raise awareness of green building benefits, the appropriately-named Living Standard campaign has evolved into a grass-roots initiative that seeks to bring consulting engineers and all other parties together to share best practice and realise the organisation’s ambitious plans.
Hoping to ‘connect the dots’ between a resilient body & mind and resilient building design, a future where occupants are actively supported by the buildings they use can be achieved. So, how did this meaningful and important evolution occur?
Where Discussion Leads to Innovation
In 2018 the CEO and President of the USGBC – Mahesh Ramanujam – conceived the idea to move the Living Standard campaign from its first generation to its second; a platform where personal experiences could be shared and infrastructure resilience matters could be discussed. Today it continues on its mission and more can be learnt by visiting the organisation’s website.
A greener future can be achieved with focused initiatives that come out of the platform like Sustainable SITES. This initiative, like so many others that have been facilitated by Living Standard.org, promotes resilient landscape development projects. And it’s programs like this one serve to improve the standard of living for everyone now and in the years to come.
A Greener, More Occupant-focused Future
So, as we can see, the Living Standard campaign is very much focused on the building users – an ethos shared by the Varming team of building services design consultants. If you would like to know more about our work in the field of occupant-supporting building sustainability, you only have to look at our past projects that can be found on our website www.varming.ie.
