At Varming Consulting Engineers, we have been delivering outstanding engineering services to our clients since just after the second world war. When Jorgen Varming founded the company in 1946, he began a process that led us to become an authority in design and engineering excellence.

Not merely involved in the mechanical and electrical (M&E) factors of construction, we are heavily involved in the design and environmental impact of the buildings we create. From the earliest stages of concept and design to collaboration on key aspects of orientation and function, our expertise is invaluable.

What better way to illustrate what we mean, than to showcase a selection of the projects we have been involved with.

Project 1

Client – Ornua Co-operative Ltd – Kerrygold Butter Packing Facility

Building Purpose – Centre of Excellence, Butter production and packing facility & innovation and customer presentation centre

Value – €6.100.000

We were commissioned to design the m&e services installations for the new Kerrygold 6,000 m2 centre of excellence, which includes a cutting-edge butter production and packaging facility and a new product development centre.

The project features involved, but were not limited to:

  • Compressed air system with full airside and waterside heat
  • Process cooling water system, delivering +1 degree water used in production
  • Heat recovery process chilling system to deliver low grade heat for use in production
  • IP CCTV system POE for added security, incorporating IP access control system
  • LED lighting & lighting control with presence and absence detection
  • DX refrigerators for +4 degree cold store

Project 2

Client – Cuisine de France / IAWS

Building Purpose – Headquarters, Coldstore Block and Production Block

Value – €22,000,000

We were commissioned to design integrated building services for Cuisine de France’s European headquarters building, production building and cold store building at their site in Tallaght, Dublin. With a combined 23,000 m2, the complete building services included:

  • A fully air-conditioned office block with integrated twin facade with incorporated internal blinds, automatic louvres and external shade
  • Natural daylight and glare control from full DALI lighting system, incorporating a full Building Management System
  • Primary heating services to HQ offices using 4-pipe fan coil units, utilising rejected heat via heat pump unit from the Baking Production Ammonia Chiller Plant
  • Energy metering for utilities and electrical, COP of Heat Pump Unit and heat loads
  • An overall BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’
