Understanding the Value of Building Information Modelling

25 July 2016

Building Information Modelling, also known as BIM, helps to integrate the design and construction processes. BIM has many advantages. It can reduce costs and increase productivity. It can also improve the building environment and reduce costly mistakes.

It is helpful in all aspects of the design and building process. It is helpful in pre-design, design, construction, and operation and maintenance. These practices will also be helpful in reducing waste and energy consumption, as well as making advances in building design and construction. It will also help improve the sustainability of buildings and decrease their environmental impact.

BIM works by using software to create a computer model of a proposed building including the physical and functional characteristics. It has many different applications. It can be used to plan physical infrastructures like water, electricity, gas, utilities, roads, bridges, and ports.

Before our current BIM technology, buildings and other physical infrastructures were planned out using two dimensional drawings. These drawings offered a very limited model of how the building would work, and they were also difficult to change as changes to the design were made.

BIM doesn’t just use 3 D models. They also include time and cost as fourth and fifth dimensions, which gives designers a much clearer picture of how things will work as a whole. BIM covers spatial relationships, geographic information, light analysis and other situation specific details.

It also allows the BIM to be passed on from the designers and architects to the contractors and subcontractors who will complete the actual work. This also facilitates information sharing between everyone involved in the project, and makes it much simpler to modify things based on the input of the collaborators.

Our Design Capabilities

Here at Varming we will design and oversee the installation, operation and monitoring of the mechanical, electrical and public health systems required for the safe, comfortable and environmentally friendly operation of modern buildings, both for new builds and refurbishment projects. We achieve this by using several methods of design, such as BREEAM, Passive Design &  course BIM.

If you are looking for quality designs provided in a open, honest and transparent manner, the call us on +353 (0)1 4872300 to discuss your requirements.
